It’s National Trail Mix Day
When : Always August 31st
National Trail Mix Day features a high energy, tasty treat for the trail or snacks. You can buy packages of trail mix at a store. Or, you can make up your own, using the ingredients you like best.
When you head out to a campout, a hike or to go biking, take the Trail Mix along with you. It provides the extra energy boost to keep you from tiring along the way, and allows you to reach your destination full of pep. Don’t limit trail mix to the trail. It is also good at campouts.
Here is a fun way that the Boy Scouts make Trail Mix:
Ask each hiker or camper to bring a box or bag of their favorite cereal, nuts, pretzels, raisins, dried fruit, M&Ms, etc. For younger hikers or new members of the group, it’s best to provide them with a list of the types of food that can go into trail mix. That way, the inexperienced hiker won’t bring something that can not be easily carried. At the campout or before the hike, bring the group together and mix all the food in a big, big bowl. Put the mix into sealable baggies and pass them out to each hiker.
Tips: When making your own trail mix, avoid messy items that leave your hands sticky. Also avoid too many salty items. For example, unsalted nuts is better than salted ones.
Happy trails to you!

It’s Frankenstein Day
There are three known “days’, and as a result, a little confusion. We have Frankenstein Friday, National Frankenstein Day, and Frankenstein Day. Let’s clarify these days for you…….
Frankenstein Day is on August 30. This day is in honor of author Mary Wollenstone Shelley who was born on August 30,1797. She wrote the book “Frankenstein “in 1818. This day in in honor of her birth.
Frankenstein Friday is the last Friday in October. Originally, we traced some references back to a website on Frankenberry cereal, which suggests a commercial origin. Recently, the creator came forward and told us about this special day that he created.
National Frankenstein Day Google posts this as October 29th. We have not been able to verify that this as a true National Day. Our latest research suggests this day is really Frankenstein Friday.
Are you still confused? Then, do what we do and celebrate all three days!

It’s Just Because Day
When : August 27th
Today is Just Because Day. Finally, you have a chance to do something without a rhyme or reason. Most often in life, we do things because we have to, or we want to, or it’s expected of us. None of those reasons apply today.
Is there something you’d like to do, but there isn’t a reason or logic for doing it? Well, today is the day to go out and do something “just because”. It is most enjoyable if it is an uncommon, or unexpected activity or action. Perhaps, you have something in mind. If not, just go with the first thing that comes to your mind. ”Just because” activities often come from a “whim” or a “what if I” type of thought. We know you will quickly get the hang of this day, and have a lot of fun with it.
To get you started, here are some of our suggestions for Just Because Day :
- Take an unplanned day of vacation
- Visit someone you haven’t seen in a while
- Knock on someone’s door and compliment them for their great lawn
- Skip, don’t walk
- Spin a wheel, and bicycle in the opposite direction of where the arrow points.
- Buy something you don’t need.
- Jump in a puddle
- Walk backwards
Here is a great idea- send someone some flowers- – “just because”.

It’s Women’s Equality Day
When : Always August 26th
Women’s Equality Day commemorates the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote.
In 1971, after much work, and at the urging of U.S. Representative Bella Abzug (D-NY), Congress designated August 26 each year as“Women’s Equality Day.” This day was selected to commemorate the passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution on August 26, 1920. This amendment granted women the right to vote. This was the culmination of decades of effort by women suffragettes and other groups. Their efforts dated back to first women’s rights convention in 1848 at Seneca Falls, New York.
Celebrate this day in a number of ways. First, stop and celebrate the accomplishments made in gaining the right to vote, and towards equality for women. Women’s rights groups suggest you continue to be involved in pursuing full and equal rights for women in all areas and in all issues.

It’s Be An Angel Day
When : Always August 22
Be an Angel Day encourages us to do acts of kindness, and to help others.
This special day has strong religious roots. Jayne Howard Feldman, the creator of this day, says she was inspired by angels to create this day on August 22.
The objective of this day is to be like an angel, and do something good or kind for someone. It encourages us to be God’s servant in doing good things for others. It is intended to do something nice or kind for someone who is in need of help. The type of angelic help you can offer is not defined or limited. It can be physical, emotional, or spiritual.
Be an Angel Day is for both the giver and the receiver. If you are the receiver, make certain to express openly your appreciation. And, recognize the angel in your life as being sent from God.
